At WeWin4u we allow you to choose the types of competitions you want to enter, and that means we have to put each competition into a category.  We’ve been entering competitions since 2006 and still have all of the competitions in our database, this means we can look back over the years and see what trends we can pick out.

For the purpose of this exercise, we’ve chosen competitions that ended in 2007, 2014 and 2021 to ensure we have a full year’s worth.

So, what do these charts show us?   There are some big winners, and some big losers.

We can see a big increase in the number of competitions in the Food and Drink category from 6% of all competitions in 2007, to 9% in 2014, and 17% in 2021.   At the same time, Games Consoles and Games has dropped from 8% of all competitions in 2007 to just 1% in 2014 where it remained in 2021.

Health and Beauty is another category that has seen significant growth; 14% in 2021, up from 9% and 5% seven years previously.  The Home and Garden category has also grown, from 8% to 10% to 14% in 2021.  Cash and Voucher prizes have increased from 6% in 2007 to 12% and 13% in 2014 and 2021.

The growth in these areas looks to be at the expense of some other categories that have seen far fewer competitions, including electrical goods, televisions and computers.

To me, it looks we’re seeing more competitions in categories related to personal consumption; food, drink, health and beauty and weekend breaks are looking strong rather than big-ticket ‘appliance’ type items, and items like personal music players and DVDs which are becoming outdated and perhaps replaced by streaming services and phone apps.

Remember, at WeWIn4u you can choose the category of prize you want (you can choose them all of course) but it’s clear that omitting certain categories could have a big effect on the number of competitions you might be entered into, so choose carefully!
